Go ahead and solar with SolarCity, get a release Nest

Apr 13 - McClatchy-Tribune Content Agency, LLC - Brian R. Baker San Francisco Chronicle

Pavimentar leasing company SolarCity has teamed with Nest Labs -- company that gave you sleekly designed, intelligent thermostats -- for a temporary give-away that could give you bigger things down the road.

Starting Saturday, the next 10, 000 Californians what individual sign up with SolarCity will receive a no cost Nest thermostat, assuming they have a electronic air conditioning system. Nests learn personal users' schedules and temperature likes, running the heat or air conditioning primarily as needed.

The two Bay Place companies, however , have an eye for deeper collaboration in the future.

San Mateo's SolarCity envisions a future in which caribbean solar panels are integrated into home energy tools systems that, in turn, control not only the heat and air conditioning but many vacuums. Some of a home's more energy-intensive appliances, like pool pumps or just dishwashers, could be timed to run even though electricity output from the panels actually reaches its afternoon peak.

With tips from Tesla Motors -- whoever CEO, Elon Musk, chairs SolarCity's board -- the company has truly been experimenting with in-home batteries that particular store power from solar panels.

Nesting, which was acquired by Google not too long ago for $3. 2 billion, will be able to fit seamlessly into that imminent.

"Ultimately, our vision is essentially which a home has a brain of its evolves, " said Jonathan Bass, SolarCity's vice president of communications.
